The entire trail in this section of Shiuguluan of the Central Cordillera measures some 85km and it passes through Batunguan Mountain, Shiuguluan Mountain, Dashuiku Mountain, Dafenjian Mountain, Lulu Mountain, Yun Peak, Nanshuangtou Mountain, Sancha Mountain and Xiangyang Mountain, totaling 10 peaks. As the third-highest mountain in Taiwan, following Jade Mountain and Snow Mountain, Shiuguluan Mountain is 3,860m above sea level. Dafenjian Mountain stands at 3,222m and its peak is among the 3 highest in Taiwan. Sancha Mountain is 3,494m above sea level and is one of the 10 highest mountains in Taiwan.
This sector of Shiuguluan has an outstanding terrain, with the Xiangyang Steep Wall, Lake Jiaming, the Sancha Mountain Prairie, Lakuyin Valley, Dafen Lake and the Laonun Valley. The Shiuguluan Mountains vary between 2,400m~3,600m above sea level and their plantation covers high mountain prairii and flat land, including a coniferous tree ecosystem and broad-leafed ecosystems. The main plants are round-shaped pines on Jade Mountain, high mountain azalea, Taiwanese cold fir and Taiwanese hemlock spruce, (昆欄樹) and (長尾樹等). Mammals are scarce in the area and there are only Taiwanese monkeys, white-belly squirrels, mountain deer and wild goats. As for local birds, there are blue-belly owls, black-tailed pheasants, partridges, yellow sparrows, line-winged thrushes, Taiwanese lesser coucals, white-eared thrushes,, yellow-chest thrushes, crown thrushes, little wing (鶇), (紫嘯鶇), white-head(鶇) and red sparrows.
