【 Type of attraction open for tourism 】

  • Length of trail: About 45km.
  • Time required for the trip: A trip to the main peaks of the Jade Mountain may take 2-3 days. A trip to the north, west, east and south peaks of the Jade Mountain would take 3-5 days and an entire trip may take about 6-7 days.
  • Difficulty: A trip to the north, west, east and south peaks of the Jade Mountain can be of medium difficulty t average people and the entire trip is of higher difficulty.

【 Management 】

  • Environmental limit: The trip passes through the Ecological Reserve and the Special Landscapes Zone in the Jade Mountain National Park.
  • Intensity of development/Type of facility: Not apt for exploration and it is proposed to keep tourists in limited numbers as Type 3 Trails of the National Trail Systems.

As the Jade Mountain is formed by strong movements that bought in violent wear, the mountain comes with slow rise that eventually made the mountain the highest in East Asia. With striking seasons, in spring, green sprouts are around, in summer, flowers are everywhere, in autumn, red maple leaves announce the approaching winter and in winter, snow covers the main peaks that gives changing views amid cloud and fog.

The main peaks in the Jade Mountain are the front mountain, the west peak, the Jade Mountain, the east peak, the north peak, the south peak, South jade Mountain, East Little South Mountain and Lu Mountain among others (it is proposed not to include the Lu Mountain route in the National Trail system). The main peak of the Jade Mountain stands at 3,952m as the highest one in Taiwan and among the 5 highest peaks in Taiwan. The East peak is at 3,940m above sea level and is known as one of the 10 highest peaks in Taiwan. The South Peak is of 3,900m and another one of the 10 highest peaks in Taiwan. The peaks of the Jade Mountains are part of the main body, which is known as Taiwan’s Ridge. Of striking landscape and mighty presence, the white forest and the steep cliffs below the old shrine on the West Peak and the lawn in the Little South Mountain are the highlighted features of the trip.

At between 3,236m~3,952m above sea level, the main peaks of the Jade Mountain is home to high mountain ecosystem that includes coniferous plants and broad-leafed ecosystem. Heading east and up from Tatajia at the end of the east side of the Jade Mountain, one would see a enriched gathering of trees, including spruce, hemlock spruce, frigid spruce, Jade Mountain cypress, Jade Mountain azalea and others. Mammals around are Taiwan monkeys, black bears, water deer, Taiwanese goats, and boars. When it comes to birds, there are blue-belly vultures, pheasants and as of reptiles, there are????????????. Fish species are Taidong?????????????.
